Agenda Item: Korean War
The Korean War began between 1950 and 1953 with North Korea attacking South Korea, having the support of the Soviet Union and China. This war was the first major conflict of the Cold War era and became a power struggle between communism and capitalism. While South Korea received support from the United Nations forces led by the United States of America, the indirect influence of NATO was important in this process. The establishment of NATO in 1949 bolstered the military unity of the Western Bloc amidst the Korean War. During the war, NATO created a counterbalance to the Soviet Union by increasing coordination between member countries, and this event made the importance of the alliance even more evident. The war led to the deaths of millions of people and the current division of Korea. But does it have to be this way? You, the delegates, will decide.
