Agenda Item: Human Rights Violations against Rohingya People Living in Myanmar
The Rohingya persecution began when the Muslim Rohingya minority in Myanmar was deprived of their citizenship rights for years. With a law passed in 1982, their citizenship was taken away, and they were declared illegal immigrants. This deprived them of basic rights such as education, healthcare, and travel. Rohingyas living in the Rakhine state experienced tensions with the Buddhist majority, and over time, these tensions turned into violent incidents. In 2017, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya were forced to flee to Bangladesh as the Myanmar army burned villages and massacred them. The UN defines this situation as genocide. Can you, delegates, find solutions to these human rights violations?
